Privacy Policy

Our Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) applies to and governs all websites, digital downloads, and software made available by Stories to Grow By, LLC (“STGB”) at www.storiestogrowby.org (“the Site”) on mobile devices, tablets, personal computers and other devices. STGB is a nonprofit 501(c)3 entity organized as part of The Lindy Foundation, a private foundation.

By accessing the Site, you are consenting to the Privacy Policy. The Privacy Policy describes what information the Site collect from users, including children, when they visit the STGB Sites; how such information is used and stored; when such information may be disclosed to third parties; how users, parents, and guardians can control the use and disclosure of collected information; and how information is protected.

Our users’ privacy is important to us, and we recognize the need to provide additional privacy protection for children on the Sites permitting such users. Our privacy practices are guided by the United States’ Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998, as well as data privacy laws in the United States. Younger users should always check with their parents or guardians before entering information on any website or mobile application and we encourage families to discuss their household guidelines regarding the online sharing of personal information.

The Information We Collect

On some pages of the Site, you may be able to order products. Personal information may be required upon purchase such as your Name, Mailing address, Email address, Phone number, and Credit/Debit Card Information. Certain additional information may be requested but not required such as your Age, the Capacity in which you work with children, the Age range of the children with which you work, your Suggestions for better practices on the Site, and so forth.

To participate in commenting on pages, or to send STGB a message through “Contact Us.” To participate in the Discussion Forum, or to send feedback through Contact Us (“Feedback”), a user must first register. At registration, a user will need to identify if the age is 13 years or older. If a user is identified as under 13 years old, the user will need to provide a signed Parental/Legal Guardian Consent Form before the registration can be completed. If the user is 13 years old or older, certain personal information may be required such as name and email address. Certain additional information may be requested but not required, such as age, country, capacity in which you the user works with children, age range of the children with which the user works, suggestions for better practices on the Stories Site, and the like.

In the event a product is available, to purchase a digital product. To purchase a digital product, a user needs to use a credit card. As part of the process of purchasing with a credit card, certain personal identifiable information may be required such as the user’s first and last name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and the like.

On some pages of the Site there are Contact Us links. At a Contact Us link, a user can send us feedback, suggestions or ideas (“Feedback”). To send Feedback, a user needs to register. Certain personal information is required upon registration, such as name, email address, and whether the user is 13 years old or older. Certain additional information may be requested but not required such as age, country, capacity in which the user works with children, age range of the children with which the user work, or suggestions for better practices on the Site. If a user is identified as under 13 years, the user will need to first provide a signed Parental/Legal Guardian Consent Form in order to continue.

The Way We Use Information

When you place an order to purchase a product or license software, we use the information you provide about yourself to complete that order. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete that order.

We use return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.

You can indicate when you place an order, or when you log in, if you would like to receive email updates. Information you submit on our website will not be used for this purpose unless you indicate that you are agreeable to receiving email updates.

We use non-identifying and aggregate information to better design our website and to share with advertisers. For example, we may tell an advertiser that X number of individuals visited a certain area on our website, or that Y number of men and Z number of women logged in, but we would not disclose anything that could be used to identify those individuals. Please rest assured that no information we provide to third parties will allow anyone to identify you, or determine anything personal about you.

Finally, we never use or share the personally identifiable information provided to us online in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you an opportunity to opt-out or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

We have privacy protection procedures in place where children under 13 years old are concerned, as provided for and described in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. We require parental consent through a permission form before we ask for any personal information from visitors we know who are under 13 years old. In addition, even after a parent has given his or her permission, we allow parents to review, amend, or delete information their children may provide, and to prohibit further collection. Furthermore, unless personal information is necessary for an activity, we do not require that visitors provide such information in order to participate in the activity.

How You Can Access or Correct Your Information

You can access all your personally identifiable information that we collect online and make changes at any time. You can correct factual errors in your personally identifiable information by sending us a request that credibly shows error. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting access or making corrections.

When you purchase a product, or you license software, you authorize us to receive the personal information you have submitted. We do not share your personal information with any third parties. By “personal information” we mean information that can be used by someone to identify or contact you, such as your first and last name, email address, or mailing address, and by “third parties” we mean anyone who is not directly involved in your purchase or license.

When you log into the Site in order to post a product review, post a software review, comment on a product or software review, “like” a product or software review, join a discussion forum, or give Feedback, you authorize us to receive the personal information you have submitted. We do not share your personal information with any third parties. By “personal information” we mean your first and last name, email address, mailing address, or other information that can be used by someone to identify or contact you, and by “third parties” we mean anyone who is not directly involved in the process of your logging into STGB. If you provide your first and/or last name as your username, then that username would be shown, however no other information such as your email address or mailing address that is associated with your username and could be used to identify you, would be shown to any third parties or shared with any third parties.

Privacy Notice

If you send electronic mail to any address in the STGB domain as a user of the Site, we will treat it as non-confidential and non-proprietary to you. By e-mailing to STGB, you authorize us to use or allow others to distribute, reproduce or otherwise use the message.

Our commitment to your privacy is important to us. To better protect your privacy we provide this notice explaining our online information practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. To make this notice easy to find, we make it available on our homepage and at every point where personally identifiable information may be requested.

We Allow You to Update, Correct, Or Delete Your Personal Information

Upon your request, and to the extent your request does not compromise our privacy or security policies, we will update and correct personal information you have previously provided to us. In addition, if you request, we will use commercially reasonable efforts to remove your name and personal information from our database. Please understand, however, that it may be impossible to remove this information completely, due to backups and records of deletions. If you wish to update your information, you may do so by sending us an e-mail that identifies the information you wish to have updated. If you wish to remove your name from our database, simply send us an e-mail to so indicate your desire.

Exceptions

There are two exceptions to our privacy policy. First, we may release or use personal information in connection with legal proceedings, or in response to a subpoena or court order.

Second, our policy only applies to information you provide to us. You may provide third parties with information as part of dialogue you conduct in any “chat-room” we sponsor or on any of our message boards, as applicable, or if you click on third-party advertising at our site. We cannot be responsible for the conduct of these third parties. They may have policies concerning privacy and the use of cookies that differ substantially from ours, and you may receive unsolicited messages due to this conduct.

Security

STGB’s server for the Site is provided by DreamHost. Please review the security policy of these servers to understand how your Personal Information will be stored. Although we trust that your Personal Information will remain secure on the Host’s server, we cannot take any responsibility in the event that your Personal Information is accessed by a third party through no fault of our own.

Your Consent

By using our web site, you consent to our collection and use of information in accordance with this privacy policy. We may in the future decide to change our privacy policy. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post the changes on this page, so that you may always be aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and the circumstances under which we disclose it. Any changes in our privacy policy will only affect information you provide after the changed policy becomes effective.
